Mughal prince Azam Shah, the 3rd son of Emperor Aurangzeb, started its construction in 1678 when he was Subedar of Bengal. He stayed in Bengal for 15 months. Before the construction of the fort was completed, his father Emperor Aurangzeb sent him to Delhi to quell the Maratha rebellion. As a result, the construction of the fort stopped. Later Subedar Shaista Khan came to Dhaka as Subedar of Bengal in 1680 and resumed the construction of the fort. Iran Dukht Rahmat Banu, daughter of Shaista Khan, died here in 1684. As a result, after the death of the daughter, Shaista Khan considered the fort to be inauspicious! Later the construction stopped.

One of the most interesting and historical structures is the Lalbagh Fort which was built during the Mughal period. Many people call Lalbagh Fort a haunted place. A special secret. It is called a haunted place because of the tunnels. There are many popular stories about this Lalbagh fort.

This Lalbagh fort has a long history and also many mysteries. There are many things to see in the Lalbagh fort, but the thing that most attracts visitors is its mysterious secret tunnels. It is said that the spirit of Paribibi, the daughter of Subedar Shaista Khan, is seen roaming in Lalbagh Fort late at night. Again, the headless upside-down horse can be seen. According to the night guards, they feel uncomfortable there at night. Another haunting feature of Lalbagh Fort is a tunnel beneath it. According to the architects, this route is 18 km. It is connected to the Tongi River. It is also common that this tunnel extends to Delhi. However, there is no truth to this. It is believed that there is a large cub inside.

Research on tunnels: According to sources, two dogs were sent into the tunnel during the British period to unravel the mystery but the two dogs never came back. Later, the search team tied the chains around the necks of the two dogs and sent them inside the tunnel. After a while, when the chain was pulled, both the chains came back, but the names of the dogs were not found. Then some elephants were also sent there. Needless to say, no trace of them was found either. After that, some elephants were also sent, but no trace of them was found! According to many researchers, there is a type of gas in it that can melt the bones and flesh of any animal. It is believed that there is a kind of power in it! Due to this any animal entering it cannot come back. After this incident, the tunnel was closed by the British government. That tunnel is still closed today. People still do not know what is hidden beyond that closed door. But all in all, Lalbagh Fort is not only a source of history but also a mystery!

Although the custodian office of Lalbagh Fort claims that all these words are imaginary, because there was no clear evidence of any of these things, however, this tunnel is still mysterious to people.
